Game mechanics. We adverise on info to vote at mudsites. Do we do this to
invite new players? If we do, then we must want a larger player pool.
Do we want the larger pool for players to draw from to join our clics, or for
players to help with information and insight? They're opposite. On the one
hand we care for ourselves and on the other we care for others. If we care for
others, we do a sort of pay it forward thing, understanding that in the end all
is one, one is internally consistent, and help to every other comes back to us
somehow if only in a little while.
New players, regardless of our want for them, need information they often don't
know to ask for. To have the philosphy 'I don't ask, that's why I get helped'
is great as long as the helping part is also offered to others. To say 'sorry,
helping you is only going to slow me down' is exactly the opposite of a want
for more players because no one likes to be left in the out. If chars get too
strong, one in a group, muds, I've heard, have shut down.
It's sort of the death of a mud that way.
If the experience gained in grouping with a new char doesn't make it worthwhile
to group with that new character, for an Anchient, then the suggestion is to
add a bonus of some sort for those of us focused only on ourselves exclusively.
We all need help. And we all have our senior moments, one wise Anchient said.
The oddity is the clanning-accross-clanning that keeps little clics from
openning their arms.
