Subject A3 Idea
I had an idea for A3 that would allow for multi-subs and increased character customization without running the risk of being too imbalanced. It may be more involved than anyone has the interest in pursuing, but I'M GONNA SUGGEST IT ANYWAY! First, take each subclass and assign it a relative value. If we were to assume that, say, warlock and mobster were of equal value then we could just give each subclass a base value (100 for the sake of simplicity), but it's my belief that some subclasses carry greater value than others, so I would look at mobster as, say, 70 versus warlock at maybe 110. Either way, start with a value. Next, break down the independent skills/bonuses of a subclass into proportional value, the sum of which would equal the subclass' assigned value. As an example, let's use trickster: Skill Level Percent deception 30 100% improved invis 50 100% flanking 70 80% betray 20 75% (A2+) Assuming trickster is an even 100, I would break it down as follows: Skill Level Percent deception 30 100% [30 points] improved invis 50 100% [40 points] flanking 70 80% [20 points] betray 20 75% [10 points] Improved invis would be the most valuable since it is a unique skill to the subclass. Deception is also, though not as cool. I would use 10 points as a base minimum, so 75% betray would land there, and flanking is cool, albeit at a max of 80% which slightly reduces its value, so 20 points. Now, looking at shaolin: Subclass: shaolin ( ninja monk ) Skill Level Percent lethal hands 10 100% [40 points] unarmed parry 30 100% [40 points] kung fu 5 75% [20 points] All these values I'm using are just for the sake of an example. So, let's say that in A3 you are allotted 100 points to assign between no greater than TWO subclasses. Using the suggested values above you could cross between trickster and shaolin and take: Improved invis [40] Lethal hands [40] Flanking (80%) [20] You would be penalized in etl for each subclass, with additional penalties if they're cross-class subs for your primary class. ADDITIONALLY, I would suggest a 10 point overage allowance that carries an additional etl penalty, since it would suck {vwicked hahd{x coming up one skill shy by 10 points. I wouldn't go beyond that, though, because then it would lead to imbalance. CONVERSELY, the same could be said if you're happy at 90 points and don't think another skill would really benefit you, maybe a credit to offset your etl penalties slightly. Anyway, just a suggestion. I'll accept your showering of praise now!
