Nagas are an elder race of humanoid serpents. They are the guardians of
wisdom, said to have taught men their arts and lore at the dawn of human
civilization. They are able to shift at will between their natural
form and a more human facade. In serpentine form, their features are still
rather humanoid, but they prefer to change to entirely humanoid form when
dealing with squeamish and rather ethnocentric humans. As serpents they can
see abnormally well in the dark and spit; their mystic nature allows them to
detect the presence of magic and to determine the properties of all objects.
Their serpentine nature means that they rarely drown or freeze, and most
piercing weapons miss them. As holy men, they are resistant to most divine
attacks. However, they can be hurt by lightning in either form.
In humanoid form they are speedy enough to attack an extra time, while in
serpent form they heal rather quickly.
While not as accurate as some, they are well-learned. Their holiness makes
them more suited to live as clerics, monks, or paladins, although many are
also quite strong and effective warriors.
