mermaid
Mermaids have the upper torso of a woman and the lower body of a fish. By their inherantly magical nature they can morph into nearly human form on dry land. While they can breath air and enjoy sunbathing, they are perfectly comfortable spending most of their time underwater. Mermaids are protectors of the sea and the creatures therein, but their attitudes toward land dwellers ranges from hesitant acceptance to active malice. They have been known to carry shipwrecked sailors to shore and nurse them to health, and to lure them from their ships to their death in icy waters with their seductive song. Mermaids are naturally fast, smart, and alluring, but with merely average physical power. They can channel magical forces like second nature, particularly water elemental spells. They can summon storms at sea, produce streams on land. Mermaids are imbued with natural healing abilities. They swim and fish from the day they are spawned, and are supremely talented in both. Poison, acid, and water attacks are diffused against Mermaids, flame attacks are extinguished by their moist auras, and their scales deflect slashing. Like other aquatic creatures they are frightened of lightning. See showrace mermaid for more details.
