Eccentrics History
Since the Shattering, there has been nothing to guide the People, no reason
to choose one moral path or another, for neither choice would bring permanent
death, and both would bring adventure. Thus most of the land had chosen
the quick and easy path, and fallen into the clutches of evil.. a mysterious
power that whispers into the ears of innocent people, 'Kill... kill that
Escaping Prisoner, he won't be able to escape anyways, it doesn't matter
if he dies.... it will be a great experience for you...'
This evil was more than a disease, and so could not be cured by medicine
or magic. This was a disease of the Soul, eating away at the moral sense
that is naturally present inside everyone at birth. Many felt it didn't
matter at all whether they have done any evil deeds, and often swung
drastically from either extreme as they progressed through life.
And then, a few started to awaken, and regret their evil deeds. Some had
experienced Hell in a period of Afterlife and were horrified at the
terrible things they were forced to do to prove their evil nature. Many
started to throw down the shackles of evil, and began to guide themselves
to an existence unfettered by guilt, and chase away the internal darkness
by embracing light. The key here was that it was on their own accord;
these enlightened individuals found guidance within themselves to do what
each knew to be right. This inner guidance prompted most of them to turn
away from most of the gods who openly asked for worship, because they felt
that their own enlightenment raised them high above other mortals anyways.
But one Goddess sat in silent contemplation, asking herself if they could
possibly know how closely their beliefs echoed her own. She was not
prepared to ask for people to follow her ways, and yet there were already
many who saw her path clearly. Was it time? the question seemed to
answer itself. She wanted to show them how she saw their struggles, how
she approved of any means they took in order to ensure that events
unfolded in favour of that which is Right and Good. So she built a temple
so that which represents Truth may be protected from Evil.
