While most casters prefer orbs and similar instruments to focus their magic,
some particularly versatile characters have trained themselves to use a weapon
as a focus, typically a dagger. This provides them with bonuses to damage and
saving throw penetration with spells as a standard focus object would.
However, there are some limitations as to what can be achieved this way.
To maintain such focus, the weapon to be focused on must be wielded in the
off-hand, and no shield may be placed on the caster's wrist.
Furthermore, the use of a weapon as focus instrument does not increase the
bonus provided by the focus skill, as an orb or other classical tool would.
